THE STROMBERG DCO

THE SWITCH THAT WAS LEFT BEHIND

The venerable Stromberg DCO was a justifiably successful Class-5 switch in the rural and independent market. Robust and full-featured, the DCO has earned the loyalty of its operators.

Over the years, the DCO went from Stromberg to Plessey to Siemens, and finally to Genband. Many features were added by Siemens, but until 2005 one feature remained conspicuous by its absence: GR303.

ENTER THE NEW CLASS-FIVE, INC.

In 2005, The New Class-Five, Inc. introduced the DLS-1080, a GR303 add-on for the DCO.

In concept, the DLS-1080 is simple: emulate from one to 12 linegroups in a DCO local or remote line frame, and provide a GR303 IDLT interface to modern loop carrier equipment. DCO switch ports are mapped to GR303 CRVs ("call reference values" - corresponding to lines on the RDT), but otherwise support all the features delivered by the DCO to standard POTS lines.
